Lest We Forget

Today I attended the North Beach RSL Sub-Branch Remembrance Day service and plaque unveiling. It was a moving ceremony to observe that on the 11th day of the 11th month of the 11th hour in 1918 the guns on the Western Front fell silent, signaling the end of the Fist World War.

Remembrance Day is commemorated by many Australians who stop to reflect on the sacrifices made by Australian servicemen and women in defence of our nation, our values and our traditions.

It is important to acknowledge the more than 102,000 Australians who have lost their lives fighting for our freedom in both world wars, in all theaters of war and conflict.

We must continue to keep their memory alive and educate the next generation about their service and sacrifice. Veterans and Veterans Families Counselling Service (VVCS) can be reached 24 hours a day across Australia for crisis support and free and confidential counselling by phoning the service on 1800 011 046.
