Volunteering has a strong presence throughout Stirling; whether it is helping out with local sporting teams and land care groups, responding to natural disasters and emergencies, or helping local charities support some of our most disadvantaged people.
It is for this reason I am pleased to announce that the Federal Government’s 2015 Volunteer Grants Round has provided $114,000 in funding for 27 of Stirling’s community organisations.
This funding will be used by local groups to purchase small equipment items, contribute to the costs of training courses and background checks for volunteers, and also reimburse the cost of fuel or transport.
A further $75,000 has also been provided to six local schools, sporting clubs and community groups under the Stronger Communities Programme. This funding has seen community gardens built and improvements to sporting facilities provided to create a more inclusive and viable Stirling community.
Round Two of the Programme is currently underway and I look forward to continue working with the Stirling community to see this funding approved for these vital services.
